One of the most prevalent neurodevelopmental disorders among children is attention deficit hyperactive disorder, more commonly referred to as ADHD. It’s a condition that can often lead kids to develop inattentiveness, hyperactivity and a lack of impulse control. It also sticks with them well into adulthood and beyond. Recent studies seem to indicate that it is a hereditary condition passed down from one generation to the next and it’s classified into three different categories. There is predominantly inattentive presentation, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive presentation and the final category is merely an amalgamation of the first two. Research on this subject dates all the way back to 1976. J.F. Lubar was the first scientist to conduct research on this subject and published an article in which he described his success in conducting experiments that helped to reduce children’s hyperactivity and improve their concentration. Many years later, scientists were able to combine this data with modern technology being perfected at UCLA to confirm their hypotheses that ADHD is partially a result of an increase in theta waves and a decrease in beta waves.
